Top weekend….

Hey everyone! Well it was another great weekend for me and the Airwaves Yamaha team, I scored my second double of the season and my team-mate, James gained two seconds and we’re still first and second in the Championship standings so Col and the boys are very happy at the minute.

It was a manic week last week and I didn’t seem to get much time between Donington and Thruxton, I tried my best just to relax and do nothing and try and shake off this cold that seems to be lingering around! The electrical problem at Donington was a bit of mystery and thankfully we had no problems at Thruxton with the Yamaha.

I went back home to Kent after Donington for a day then headed down to Storka’s on Wedneday night and up to Thruxton on Thursday, I checked in with the team and came up with a plan with the team as to what we were aiming for over the weekend. I was looking forward to it and the weather was set to be a scorcher. With me living down with Storka in B-town, Thruxton is pretty much like a home round for me so I really wanted to put on a good show.

We headed out for dinner again on the Thursday night to a little pub we’ve been to the last four or five years, they do a bit of everything and the food was spot on. We were running a bit late as Storks didn’t get to the track until late, we found a 24 hour Tesco’s to do the weekly shop and arrived back at the track fairly late on!

The sun was shining on Friday morning and I was keen to get a few laps in, although I still wasn’t feeling 100% I was a lot better than what I was at Donington. From the off the Airwaves Yamaha once again felt great and it made me more keen for the weekend and to get some good results in the bag. The weekend panned out well and my race times were ideal and consistent, I was feeling confident for race day after setting pole position.

The next problem to worry about was getting a good start as they haven’t been the best this season and I seem to always like to give myself a challenge and work through the pack but it’s essential that I get on top of that and get to the front as soon as possible as I knew I had a good race pace. James (Ellison) has got the starts to a ‘T’ and shot out the blocks at the front in both races! Mine weren’t too bad, I was 3rd after the first lap in race one and then second into the first corner in race two.

I got to the front by lap four in the first race and by the end of the first lap in the second race and I just had to get settled into a rhythm and find a good pace, which I could run both races at. I felt extremely comfortable but you can’t afford to lose concentration in these races as that’s when mistakes happen, I just had to focus on my job and get to the chequered flag.

Two wins and I’ve further extended my lead from James, it was a great weekend for us to ‘Kick up a Gear’ and get some good results in the bag. I have a few weeks off now until Snetterton, I need to get rid of this cold and get back out on the push bike!

A few of us headed down to Storka’s on Sunday night after the race for a BBQ and chill out session in the sun after a hard days racing, It was a good do.

Thanks to the boyz once again …….‘innit’!!

Cheers guys
